SEOUL, Dec. 15 (Yonhap) — The Bank of Korea, South Korea’s central bank, said Thursday that it will issue notes to commemorate the Winter Olympics Games to be held in South Korea in 2018.
South Korea is the host country of the 2018 Winter Olympics Games which will take place in PyeongChang, some 180 kilometers east of Seoul in Gangwon Province, and other venues in the country, from Feb. 9 to 25.
It marks the first time that the country’s central bank has issued a commemorative note, instead of a coin.
The note, 140 millimeters wide and 75 millimeters long, will have the par value of 2,000 won (US$1.70), according to the central bank.
The front side of the note will feature images of key winter sports events such as figure skating, and the other side will have a tiger and a pine tree, which are regarded as symbolizing South Korea.
